Buy Local in Greater Hume Shire initiative

Greater Hume Shire Council recognises the crucial role small businesses play in developing the character of our local communities by generating economic activity and strengthening community cohesion across our shire, creating jobs and employment opportunities.

Council’s primary aim is to raise awareness in the community about the importance of shopping locally and positively influence buying behaviour to increase shopping at our local shops and businesses, and to encourage an increase in local business to business activity as well.

“Even a small shift in consumer spending to support local businesses can have a significant impact on our local economies and employment in the shire” said Mayor, Cr Heather Wilton.

Stage 2 of the Buy Local in Greater Hume Shire involves the creation of a Business Directory listing businesses in the shire.  Copies of the directory have been distributed to businesses across the shire together with a survey to provide feedback to Council.  To complete the survey please click here.

Extra copies of the Buy Local in Greater Hume Shire Business Directory can be collected free of charge from any council office or library.

New businesses in the shire are encouraged to register their details with Council.
