Greater Hume Shire covers an area of some 5,939 square kms, and has a population base of 10,206 people. An amalgamation of the former Culcairn Shire, the former Holbrook Shire (except for an area of 19.2 square kms transferred to the Tumbarumba Shire), and approximately 81 percent of the area of the former Hume Shire, the new Council was constituted by proclamation on 26th May 2004.
The Council Corporate and Community Services are located in the Holbrook office while the Environment and Planning and Engineering, (or technical services) are located in Culcairn. Customer Service Centres are located in Henty, Walla Walla and Jindera. Council has Works Depots located at Culcairn, Holbrook and Jindera with sub depots at Henty and Walla Walla.
The Greater Hume Shire Council is now a ‘simply greater’ Council, committed to improving the lifestyle opportunities of residents and visitors alike.


Service NSW Self Serve Kiosk

Service NSW is committed to making it easier for rural and regional residents of NSW to access more NSW Government services.
As part of this commitment, Service NSW and Greater Hume Shire Council are working together to make it easier for the communities in Culcairn and Holbrook to access online NSW Government services via the Culcairn and Holbrook Self-Serve Kiosks.
Transactions available include:  
  • Renewing your vehicle and boat registration
  • Applying for an eTag or eToll account
  • Changing a residential or mailing address with Roads and Maritime Services
  • Renewing an individual contractor licence
  • Checking a builder or tradesperson licence
  • Applying for a NSW Seniors Card
  • Paying for Housing NSW Rent
  • Paying a penalty notice
  • Paying an enforcement order
  • Paying land tax
  • Ordering a National Parks annual pass
  • Applying for a Recreational Fishing Licence
and much more.
The Culcairn Self-Serve Kiosk is located at Greater Hume Shire Council, 40 Balfour Street, Culcairn and is open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm and Saturday 10am to 12:30pm.
The Holbrook Self-Serve Kiosk is located at Greater Hume Shire Council, Library Court, Holbrook and is open from Tuesday to Friday 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 5:30pm and Saturday 9:30am to 12:30pm.

 What is Snap Send Solve? 

Snap Send Solve is a free app for your iPhone or Android device that lets you report issues and provide feedback to Council in under 30 seconds.

How Snap Send Solve Works

Snap Send Solve determines your current Council area using your smartphone's GPS location. Once your GPS location has been determined, the server sends back all relevant Council details, including contact information, location, and email contact.

Snap Send Solve allows you to easily capture and report on common issues including litter, damaged roads or footpaths, parking issues, street cleaning, trees, and also provide a general request or general feedback.

What happens when Council receives a report?

Reports are received via email and then registered into our Customer Request Management (CRM) system to be followed up by staff.
