Council Elections were last held on 10 September  2016, where the nine councillors were elected under a "wards" system. The current Mayor CR Heather Wilton was elected by the Councillors on 21 September 2016.

Heather has a wealth of experience in local government and served a five year Ministerial Appointment with the NSW Local Government Grants Commission.

Involved in a number of community committees, Heather enjoys being actively involved in the community to ensure good representation for all residents. Heather lives with her family in Holbrook and was elected to Greater Hume Shire Council in September 2008.

Cr Doug Meyer OAM, Deputy Mayor

One of five new Councilor's in 2012, Doug is a third generation partnership farmer resident in Henty, with lifelong predilection supporting Henty and District.

Loves over 49 years include his family, farming interest’s, with hands on community organization support for:- JCI as a Senator Life Member, member  Bucki Bush Fire Brigade for 50 years;  from 1972 NSW Farmers D C Secretary for 22 years & Certificate of Merit Awardee,  & concurrently as Secretary, Executive Director and then CEO of Henty Machinery Field Days for 38 years culminating in recognition of HMFD as one of Australia's eminent agricultural events. 

Awarded an OAM in January 2009 for services to the community primarily through Henty Machinery Field Days.

Cr Matt Hicks

Matt has lived in Jindera since 1980, in that time he has been a member of the Jindera Bush Fire Brigade for 22 years, serving as a Group Captain for 6 years. 
 
During his working career he has been involved in agricultural and construction equipment sales and service, the steel supplies industry and he currently works for Landmark at Walla Walla. 
 
He also operates a small farm north of Walla Walla in the South ward and has a keen interest in both the village and rural aspects of Greater Hume Shire.

Cr Jenny O'Neill

A third generation resident of Jindera, Jenny is passionate about providing an environment where all members of the community are adequately catered for. 
 
Married with three children and three grandchildren, Jenny has been a teacher at St John's Lutheran School, Jindera for more than 20 years and has represented both Hume Shire and now Greater Hume Shire Council as a councillor since 2004.

Cr Denise Osborne

Denise has been an elected representative in local government for more than 25 years and served as Greater Hume Shire Mayor from September 2006 through to September 2012 having previously represented the Hume Shire before amalgamation.
 
Denise was presented with the Inaugural Award for Women in Local Government – Elected Representative Rural Council in recognition for her service to local government in 2008 and her local government experiences have now been recognised and are illustrated in a permanent exhibit at the Museum of Australian Democracy Old Parliament House, Canberra.
 
Denise and her late husband Barry have lived in the Shire for almost 30 years and have six children, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Cr Annette Schilg

Annette is one of the five newly elected Councillors to join Greater Hume Shire in 2012, who lives on a rural property with her husband at Walbundrie, situated along the beautiful Billabong Creek.
 
Annette has a life long rural background, which includes working in the Public Health system for many years.
 
A caring and passionate community member, Annette is actively involved in, and supports a variety of local committees. Has great pride and love for her blended family and six delightful grandchildren. Hobbies include ‘babysitting’,gardening,patchwork,family, friends and travel.
 
Annette brings to Greater Hume Shire a voice at the ‘grass roots level’.

Cr Terry Weston

Terry lives on the family property 'Pilrig' near Culcairn with his wife Jenny,
where they breed and finish cattle. They have three daughters and seven grandchildren.
 
Terry has business and rural experience and enjoys being actively involved in
community committees in Culcairn.
 
Terry was elected to Greater Hume Shire Council's North Ward in the 2016 elections and
hopes to bring to Council a  fair, caring and progressive approach for the Greater Hume Shire.

Electoral Funding Authority


The New South Wales Electoral Commission is the administrative unit through which the Election Funding Authority (the Authority) exercises its statutory responsibilities. Greater Hume Shire was created on 26 May 2004. David Sexton, who had previously served as Chief Commissioner of Towong Shire in Victoria, was appointed Administrator, and Peter Veneris, the former General Manager of Hume Shire Council, became Interim General Manager. Mayoral elections were held on 16 March 2005.
