On 18 December 2015 the NSW State Government released their local government reform ‘blueprint’ which proposed the following:
- Reducing the number of regional councils from 109 to 87 with the creation of 20 new regional councils by merging 42 Councils
- and reducing the number of councils in Greater Sydney from 43 to 25 with 15 new Greater Sydney Councils created by merging 33 Councils.
Greater Hume Shire Council has not been included in any merger proposals.
For Greater Hume and other councils deemed Fit and not included in a merger proposal, those councils can proceed with the implementation of their Improvement Action Plans.
