Culcairn
The district around Culcairn was originally settled by Europeans in 1834 having been the traditional home and hunting ground for the Wiradjuri Indigenous people up until that point.

 
Henty
Henty is a small town with a big heart. Located midway between the large regional centres of Albury Wodonga and Wagga Wagga, the town is situated on the Olympic Highway and the main Southern Railway line between Melbourne and Sydney.

 
History & Heritage
Explorers Hume and Hovell were probably the first Europeans to see the area and travelled through parts of the Shire on their expedition south to Port Phillip, (Melbourne) in the early 1800’s.

 
Holbrook
Holbrook is situated between Melbourne and Sydney on the Hume Highway. Holbrook is the largest town in the Greater Hume Shire and is primarily a service centre for the surrounding region and visiting highway traffic.

 
Jindera
Originally settled in the 1830’s, the area was initially called ‘Dight’s Forest’ after a friend of Hamilton Hume but was renamed in 1869 after German immigrants in search of land journeyed from South Australia by wagon-train settled in the area.

Greater Hume Shire Visitor Information Centre and Submarine Museum are adjacent to the HMAS Otway and contain an interesting variety of memorabilia relating to submarines.

Walla Walla boasts an impressive range of industries for a town of its size, many supporting the surrounding agricultural district, as well as some that are aimed at both national and international markets.
