What to do in Greater Hume in February

Greater Hume is filled some amazing day drives. Whether you are looking for an insight into our history, searching for all the best swimming and fishing spots or just wanting to enjoy our beautiful scenery, Greater Hume is the area to explore.

For our history buffs -
  • You can take on the Bushrangers tour of Greater Hume. Follow along Mad Dan Morgan's trail by stopping at Sergeant Smyth's Memorial in Henty, then driving on to John McLean's Memorial in Culcairn and finishing it up at one of our beautiful picnic spots that surrounds you with 360 degree views at Morgan's Lookout in Walla Walla.
  • You can follow the trail of the 'Trek' and explore Greater Hume while celebrating the spirit of the German families who came from South Australia to create a better life for themselves and the region as a whole. This self-drive loop will take you through Jindera, Burrumbuttock, Brocklesby, Walbundrie, Walla Walla and Gerogery.
While undertaking both of these drives you will find yourself immersed in and driving past some beautiful scenery, historic homesteads and markers and some interesting Museums. Take advantage of these drives and call into places such as the Headlie Taylor Header Museum in Henty, the Jindera Pioneer Museum, the Avro Anson Landing site in Brocklesby or the Station House Museum in Culcairn and really immerse yourself in the history of our area.

For our outdoor adventurers -

You can take on the Murray River Adventure which will take you between Holbrook and the spectacular Lake Hume near Albury, tracing the upper reaches of the Murray River as you skirt around the beautiful Woomargama National Park. This scenic drive takes you through lovely small communities, such as Bowna and Lankey's Creek and past some historical sites such as Wymah Museum to add some historical context to your drive.

On this adventure, you could even take a short side trip on the Wymah Ferry that crosses the Murray over to Victoria, or head up into the mountains to the beautiful Flyfaire Winery and some gorgeous lookouts. The Murray River adventure gives you the chance to take a hike around Woomargama National Park and enjoy a picnic at one of the picnic areas or go for a swim, drop a line or take your canoe out on the Murray River. There is something for everyone's adventure tastes in Greater Hume.
