The sun is still shining and the warm weather is still definitely upon us and we could not think of a more perfect time to explore the beautiful area that is Greater Hume.

We have highlighted some of the great experiences that exist within Greater Hume for you to explore as well as a number of events to look forward to.

Restoring Murray Woodlands Tender Information Session
2903 Olympic Highway, Culcairn 
6 February 2023, 12:30pm - 2.00pm and 6.00pm - 7.30pm 

During the sessions Biodiversity Conservation Trust staff will explain:

  • Benefits to landholders
  • How biodiversity and carbon agreements can work together
  • Conservation tender process and eligibility
  • How landholders will be supported by the BCT, LLS and Clean Energy Regulator
  • Details on the ongoing conservation agreement with annual maintenance payments
  • The opportunity for long term contracts to sell ACCUs generated over the life of a carbon project
  • Steps to submitting an Expression of Interest

Lunch will be provided.

Henty Agricultural Show

The Annual Henty Agricultural Show has been running for over a century. This annual event held in February, is a showcase of local agricultural produce including grain, sheep, cattle, and local produce. The show provides an opportunity for young rural citizens, with junior judging and handling of cattle. With horses, cattle, food, arts and crafts there is sure to be something for all members of the family to enjoy

Forgotten Trades Festival

Come and enjoy an afternoon at the beautiful Jindera Pioneer Museum and discover talents old and new. Stalls, food, entertainment, exhibits, demonstrations and more.

What to do in Greater Hume in February

Greater Hume is filled with some of the most incredible day drives, filled with spectacular scenery, amazing adventures and plenty of places to stop for a bite or a picnic. Where else would you want to spend your summer holidays or valentines weekend than here?

Regardless of what kind of adventure or romantic getaway you are after, there is something here for you to enjoy. 

You can take on the Murray River Adventure which will take you between Holbrook and the spectacular Lake Hume near Albury, tracing the upper reaches of the Murray River as you skirt around the beautiful Woomargama National Park. This scenic drive takes you through lovely small communities, such as Bowna and Lankey's Creek and past some historical sites such as Wymah Museum to add some historical context to your drive.

On this adventure, you could;
  • Take a short side trip on the Wymah Ferry that crosses the Murray over to Victoria,
  • Head up into the mountains to the beautiful Flyfaire Winery and enjoy a romantic lunch paired with some gorgeous lookouts.
  • Hike around Woomargama National Park and enjoy a picnic at one of the picnic areas or
  • Go for a swim, drop a line or take your canoe out on the Murray River.
There is something for everyone's adventure tastes in Greater Hume.

The Mountains to the Plains Expedition will really immerse you in our landscape and allow you to soak up the beauty of the natural environment. This day drive allows you to take in stunning mountains, national parks, and the formative stretches of the Murray River in the south-east, and rolling hills, gentle slopes and grassy plains as you move further north and west.

This drive will take you through towns and villages such as; Holbrook, Cookardinia, Henty, Walbundrie, Burrumbuttock, Walla Walla, Gerogery and Woomargama. Anywhere on this trip you can pullup for a break and experience some incredible landmarks, such as;
  • Museums in Holbrook, like the Woolpack Inn, Australian Pottery Museum and the Submarine Museum.
  • The Henty Man in Henty, a dedicated memorial to ‘The Men of the Road during the Great Depression’.
  • Billabong Creek in Walbundrie, perfect for a fishing break.
  • Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre in Burrumbuttock where you will learn all about our native flora and fauna as you explore their gardens.
  • Morgan's Lookout in Walla Walla, where Dan Morgan the Bushranger made the most of the view as he used it to look out for police. 
  • Table Top Mountain in Gerogery, which provides a beautiful backdrop and whose shape and colour changes with the location that you view it from.
  • Woomargama National Park in Woomargama which provides you with the ultimate immersion in nature.
