Welcome to 2023! This year looks to bring incredible community events and amazing adventures here in Greater Hume so make sure you add our towns and villages to your travel list this year.

We have highlighted some of the great experiences that exist within Greater Hume for you to explore as well as a number of events to look forward to.

Australia Day Poker Run - Fun Motor Car and Cycle Rally
26 January 2023 - 8am

All Motorcycles and cars welcome for the ultimate Sunday Drive Day!
Registration is at 8am at the Submarine Precinct in Holbrook for a departure at 8.45am.
The route this year will see stops at Henty for smoko, Pleasant Hills for a refreshment, Walbundrie for Lunch and last card at Gerogery.

What to do in Greater Hume in January

Bring on 2023 and the adventures that wait to be found this new year! Why not start with some amazing ones that are right here in Greater Hume.

Regardless of what kind of adventure you are after, there is something here for you to enjoy. 

Wanting an adventure near the water? Why not try:

  • Taking a dip and beat the heat at one of our swimming pools in Culcairn, Henty, Holbrook, Jindera and Walla Walla.
  • Drop a line in one of our fishing spots along the Billabong Creek or the Murray River and Lake Hume. 
  • Birdwatch out at Gum Swamp in Walla Walla or the Doodle Comer Swamp in Henty.
Is a nature based adventure more your style? You could:
  • Discover local flora and fauna at Wirriminna Environmental Education Centre in Burrumbuttock where you can enjoy lunch next to a picturesque dam. 
  • Take the Landcare Self Drive Ecotour around Holbrook and learn how Landcare is addressing problems like salinity, erosion, declining water quality and loss of biodiversity
  • Enjoy Woomargama National Park on your horse or on foot taking in the birdlife while enjoying a picnic at one of the many spots along the way.

Prefer something that will get your heart rate up? What about:
  • Four wheel driving, mountain biking or hiking in Woomargama National Park,
  • Scale Morgan’s Lookout in Walla Walla, 
  • Book a tour of Table Top Mountain,
  • Show off your moves or learn a new trick or two at the Skateparks located in Culcairn, Henty, Holbrook, Jindera and Walla Walla. 
  • Enjoy a hit of tennis with your friends or family at courts in Brocklesby, Bungowannah, Burrumbuttock, Cookardinia, Culcairn, Gerogery, Gerogery West, Henty, Holbrook, Jindera, Little Billabong/Yarra Yarra, Morven, Walbundrie and Wymah. 
  • Get on your bike and peddle your way through Culcairn on the bike track. 
Just want to enjoy some air-conditioned comfort?
  • Take a shopping trip through Greater Hume and stay nice and cool as you grab some amazing bargains. We have a great variety of retail stores including antique shops and second-hand vintage, homewares, jewellery, books, art galleries and craft stores throughout our area.
  • Visit one (or all) of our incredible Museums showcasing our history ranging from pioneering, to railways, to submarines.
