What to do in Greater Hume in July

Get out and about this winter by exploring some of the amazing sights and experiences by embarking on some day drives around Greater Hume.

Why not take a drive through Woomargama National Park where you can soak in the peace and quiet and indulge in lots of wildlife watching. From either Hanel’s or Norths Lookout, the vistas are among the most spectacular in the region, providing views of the Murray River, Snowy Mountains and across the Riverina. You can pack a picnic and relax at either the Tin Mines or Samual Bollard picnic and camping areas. Enjoy a meal and some country hospitality at the Woomargama Hotel or located along Tunnel Road near the National Park is the beautiful Flyfaire Winery where you can drop in and sample some beautiful local produce and their award-winning organic wines.

You can follow the trail of the 'Trek' and explore Greater Hume while celebrating the spirit of the German families who came from South Australia to create a better life for themselves and the region as a whole. This self-drive loop will take you through Jindera, Burrumbuttock, Brocklesby, Walbundrie, Walla Walla and Gerogery. There are plenty of amazing landmarks to see as you make your way along this historic journey. You can start off at the Jindera Pioneer Museum which will give you a window into life on the land over 150 years ago, then in Burrumbuttock, visit the Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre and experience the diversity of native pants and wildlife. In Brocklesby you can see the Avro Anson Display in Blacksmiths Park which tells the story of when two Avro Anson training planes were involved in a mid-air collision over the village. As you head towards Walla Walla walk in the footsteps of Mad Dan Morgan up to Morgan's Lookout and enjoy a picnic with incredible 360-degree views. Stroll on to Walbundrie or Gerogery take a break and enjoy some country pub hospitality whilst soaking in the beauty of the historic buildings.
