What to do in October in Greater Hume

Greater Hume has some amazing day drives that showcases the beauty, history and uniqueness of our area. Embark on one of these trips and explore the area - you never know what incredible things you might find!

Take a trip back in time and imagine yourself on the Cobb & Co coach as it rattled through colonial Australia, linking communities, delivering mail and bringing supplies to rural and regional communities. This trip will take you through Henty, Cookardinia, Holbrook, Morven and Culcairn where there are plenty of incredible sights to see. While driving on this trip you can see the ruins of the Squatter’s Arms Inn at the bridge at Cookardinia and John McLean’s grave at Round Hill, both amazing pieces in the history of the infamous Mad Dan Morgan and there is beautiful agricultural scenery in all directions.

Stop in these towns and villages and enjoy some amazing shopping opportunities at Hello Maude, Lea_Bic Photography, Satch & Co and The Ten Mile in Holbrook, Judy's Bazaar, VentyHintage and Flourish in Henty, and Curiouser 'n' Curiouser and Hub 'n' Hive in Culcairn, and enjoy a fantastic meal and some country hospitality at any one of the lovely cafes or hotels in Culcairn, Henty, Holbrook or Morven.

                       Waiting for a bite.

If you are wanting to immerse yourself in nature, take the Round the Top Circuit drive, a leisurely drive around the majestic landmark that is Table Top Mountain. This an opportunity to take in the scenery at a more relaxed pace, visit important historical sites, and maybe take a break and enjoy a picnic in a national park. Table Top Mountain is actually a series of peaks where the perspective changes depending on where you view it from, so take this opportunity to view it from Gerogery, Culcairn, Moven, Holbrook, Woomargama and Mullengandra.

While on the drive you can plan to stop off for a break and maybe a picnic at the Tunnel Road picnic area at the entrance to the Woomargama National Park, where you can enjoy birdwatching, walking and wildflower displays in spring. Grab picnic supplies in nearby Holbrook or visit Flyfaire Wines Cellar Door and Café or drink in the charm of one of the local pubs in Gerogery, Holbrook, Culcairn or Woomargama.
