The festive season is here in Greater Hume and now is the time to relax, spend time with family and friends and explore our beautiful area.

We have highlighted some of the great experiences that exist within Greater Hume for you to explore as well as a number of events to look forward to.

Country Garden Markets
4 Byng Street, Holbrook
4 December 2021 - 8am - 2pm


Beautiful garden markets that are just in time for Christmas. There will be 10 local stall holders with lots to offer.

Battle of the Border
Carberry Estate, 13813 Hume Highway, Mullengandra
10 - 12 December 2021  


This horse and carriage event consists of 3 phases, not unlike 3 day eventing except the horses are pulling a carriage, they are not being ridden. Free entry for Spectators into the event. 

There will be something for all the family to enjoy with market stalls and delicious food vendors along with beautiful horses and exciting entertainment. Enjoy a day or two watching magnificent horses and skilful carriage drivers showing their expertise in a dressage competition and obstacle course. 

On Friday 10 December starting at 5.30pm is the Trot Up which is the inspection of competitors horse/s.

On Saturday 11 December starting at 8.30am is the Dressage, followed immediately by the cones.

On Sunday 12 December at 8.30am, is the marathon phase. Competitors take approximately 1.5 hours to complete this phase. The obstacles will be very well located, with close proximity to each other so that the spectators will be able to see all the action them without having to walk far.

Markets at the G-Rodge
Gerogery Hotel
11 December 2021 - 4pm - 8pm 


Markets at the G-Rodge are held on the second Saturday of every month, showcasing local, homemade and handcrafted talent! The twilight market season starts in October and will run through until February 2022.

Tim Fischers Working Machinery Shed Operational Day
Jindera Pioneer Museum
12 December 2021 - 2pm - 4pm


The Tim Fischers Working Machinery Shed at the Jindera Pioneer Museum will be operational on the second Sunday of every month during the warmer weather. This meeting is a great opportunity to see engines running and will make for a great time for a meet and greet of like-minded people.

Henty Community Christmas Carols
Henty Memorial Park

Celebrate all things Christmas with the locals and sing along to your favourite Carols at the Henty Memorial Park on Saturday 19 December.

What to do in Greater Hume in December

The Summer holiday season, or as some people like to call it, 'the most wonderful time of the year' is finally here. We can't help but agree with them when we look at all the activities and adventures there are to undertake in Greater Hume this December.

Put on your adventurers hat and head out to enjoy the fresh air and all that the surrounding landscape has to offer. Like:
  • Take a dip and beat the heat at one of our swimming pools in Culcairn, Henty, Holbrook, Jindera and Walla Walla.
  • Four wheel driving, mountain biking or hiking in Woomargama National Park,
  • Scale Morgan’s Lookout in Walla Walla, 
  • Book a tour of Table Top Mountain,
  • Trace the steps of Hume & Hovell with your horse or on foot taking in the birdlife while enjoying a picnic at one of the many spots along the way.
  • Discover local flora and fauna at Wirriminna Environmental Education Centre in Burrumbuttock where you can enjoy lunch next to a picturesque dam. 
  • Take the Landcare Self Drive Ecotour around Holbrook and learn how Landcare is addressing problems like salinity, erosion, declining water quality and loss of biodiversity.

                         Jindera Skatepark
  • Show off your moves or learn a new trick or two at the Skateparks located in Culcairn, Henty, Holbrook, Jindera and Walla Walla. 
  • Drop a line in one of our fishing spots along the Billabong Creek or the Murray River and Lake Hume. 
  • Get on your bike and peddle your way through Culcairn on the bike track. 
  • Do a Bushrangers tour of Greater Hume by visiting Sergeant Smyth's Memorial in Henty, John McLean's Memorial in Culcairn and finish it up with a picnic and 360 degree views at Morgan's Lookout in Walla Walla. 
  • Enjoy a hit of tennis with your friends or family at courts in Brocklesby, Bungowannah, Burrumbuttock, Cookardinia, Culcairn, Gerogery, Gerogery West, Henty, Holbrook, Jindera, Little Billabong/Yarra Yarra, Morven, Walbundrie and Wymah. 
Retail therapy more your thing? We have a great variety of retail stores including antique shops and second-hand vintage, homewares, jewellery, books, art galleries and craft stores throughout Greater Hume.
