Too many people, especially young men are not wearing their seatbelts while driving.

Tragically in NSW this year alone fatal crashes from not wearing an available seatbelt has increased by over 50% and in response, Greater Hume Council is promoting the message that seatbelts save lives and WEAR THE DAMN BELT!!!

The campaign developed by Council’s, Road Safety Officer, Kim Schultz, will be supported on Council’s Facebook and Instagram pages asking people to wear a Black Sash on Black Friday, 27 November 2020.

“The black sash was chosen as it symbolises wearing a seatbelt and the message is plain and simple, WEAR THE DAMN BELT!!!” says Kim.

The campaign also shares the Embrace Life advert, produced by the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership in the UK promoting the message ‘“Seatbelts Save Lives”. “And although the advert is 10 years old and I have watched it many, many times, it’s one of the best adverts to promote seatbelt use I have seen”, mentioned Kim.

“Borrowing the Embrace Life Hug from the advert, I would love to see people share their own embrace life hug photos on social media, the more people that share the message, the less tragedy we will hopefully see on our roads”, says Kim

WEAR THE DAMN BELT!!! Sashes are available at all Greater Hume Council offices or email Kim at roadsafety@greaterhume.nsw.gov.au to have one delivered.
