The NSW Rural Fire Service, Southern Border Team Bush Fire Danger Period commences this Sunday 1st November 2020. This encompasses Albury, Berrigan, Federation and Greater Hume Local Government Areas.
Operational Officer John Osmond said that whilst the natural landscape and conditions have changed since last fire season, there is still a significant risk especially with recent wet weather and increased grass growth. Landholders should be aware of the risks on their property and surrounds, and take appropriate measures to ensure they are protected from bush fire risk. Landholders and residents can head to www.rfs.nsw.gov.au for further information.
Operational Officer Osmond also states that Landholders wishing to undertake burning for agricultural purposes will be required to obtain a Fire Permit from the NSW Rural Fire Service.
Permits for the burning of grass and stubble only will be available from www.preventbushfires.com.au or local Brigade Permit Issuing Officers. Conditions apply to these permits and details are available from the contacts above. Landholders are also reminded to notify of their proposed burn at: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify
We ask landholders to proceed with caution when burning and to monitor current and forecast weather conditions. The permit holder needs to be aware they are fully responsible for the consequences of the fire. Landholders will be held accountable for any fire that escapes from their property and severe penalties apply.
