Weeds, Vegetation and Pests

Chilean Needle Grass

Residents are encouraged to be diligent regarding the control of weeds within the Shire. Greater Hume Council is very conscious of the impact of weeds on the environment and encourages residents to inspect their properties on a regular basis and report any suspected weeds to Council's Weed Officers.

Council’s Weed Officers can advise landholders of the various treatment methods for weed control to suit each type of weed and are aware of the latest control measures.

From 1 July 2017 the Noxious Weeds Act 1993 is null and void and is being replaced by the Biosecurity Act 2015.

Red Guide Posts

Regional Noxious Weeds Advisory Groups, Local Land Services and Transport for NSW has developed a simple system to assist in reducing the spread of priority weeds along roadsides. It involves the installation of red guide posts at the ‘start’ and ‘end’ of each weed infestation. The red guide posts identify the site and an extensive awareness campaign will advise that there is to be no works between the posts without the local weed officer’s permission.
