Greater Hume local government area is in southern NSW and part of the Riverina-Murray region. Agriculture is the largest economic contributor and employs one third of the workforce. Other important industries are manufacturing and construction, real estate activity and transport logistics.

Situated within the national north south freight corridor, the area is linked by road via Hume and Olympic Highways and by rail via the national Main Southern Railway line.  Culcairn, Henty and Holbrook service the needs of major interstate traffic.
