New ‘Health Hub’ Building Secured for Culcairn

Published on 01 July 2025

In a landmark collaboration, the Culcairn Local Health Advisory Committee, Greater Hume Council, and the Culcairn Lions Club have joined forces to purchase the former NAB building at 31A Balfour Street, Culcairn. This strategic investment ensures that Culcairn has the necessary infrastructure to support its growing healthcare needs.

The purchase was made possible through:

  • Culcairn Local Health Advisory Committee trust funds from the sale of Kiltearn House
  • Greater Hume Council health initiative funds, also linked to Kiltearn House
  • A generous bequest from the late Alan Fifield, held by the Culcairn Lions Club

The President of the Culcairn Lions Club, Mr Ken Scheuner stated in regard to the generous bequest made by Mr Alan Fifield, ‘Alan and Gwen Fifield and the Culcairn community have always gone hand in hand, whether it be in business, in Council as Mayor or Shire President, and as an honorary member of the Culcairn Lions Club, over their lifetime.’

‘It is therefore appropriate that naming this building in honour of the Fifield’s, reflects both the contribution they made to the Culcairn community and the contribution towards the purchase of the building. This contribution was made possible by a sizable bequest from Alan Fifield, for the benefit of the aged community in Culcairn’ Mr Scheuner said.

The newly acquired building will serve as a complementary health hub to support additional medical and allied health services, including: diabetes education and dietetics; speech pathology; podiatry; physiotherapy and/or community health initiatives. The final composition of services will emerge over the balance of 2025 – once the mix of services the established health providers are able to secure is known.

The building will be owned by Greater Hume Council who are working closely with Culcairn Local Health Advisory Committee to develop plans to refurbish the building in preparation for the Health services.

The Culcairn Local Health Advisory Committee would like to thank all those involved in securing this building to support the health needs of our local community.
