Lantern Festival at the Jindera Pioneer Museum

Next date: Saturday, 03 August 2024 | 12:00 PM to 11:59 PM

Based on the The Lantern Walk, or ‘Laternenlauf’ in German. This festival traces its origins back to the Middle Ages. This festive event, centres around kindness, light, and community spirit, and is clearly associated with bringing light into a dark world and chasing away the bleakness of winter.

Many schools and kindergartens prepare for this event, with the children making colourful lanterns hanging from sticks. These lanterns are then lit up with battery-operated candles and carried by the children as they parade through the streets.
