Notice of Works - Refreshing Rivers Project
Published on 29 May 2025
The Refreshing Rivers initiative is a 10-year project focused on improving the health of waterways and surrounding habitats. The project involves the development and implementation of land management strategies that benefit local flora and fauna.
As part of this effort, Local Land Services, in collaboration with Holbrook Landcare and Soil Conservation Service, will be using Ian Geddes Reserve as a public demonstration site to showcase these management techniques.
Planned Works:
From Monday, June 2 to Friday, June 13, Local Land Services will be undertaking works to cut, poison, and remove woody weeds from the site. The removed vegetation will be processed into mulch, while larger logs will be repurposed to create habitat structures for local wildlife.
Additionally, fallen trees across Ten Mile Creek will be repositioned to help prevent further erosion.
Environmental Significance:
Ten Mile Creek is home to the Southern Pygmy Perch and other threatened species. By improving river conditions, increasing water permanency, and creating refuge pools, these works aim to support and preserve important aquatic and riparian habitats.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to enhance the health of our local environment.
